In late 2019, Aliayta formed THIRTYMINUTES with visual artist Paul MacIntrye and composer/performer Liam Ross Gibson. THIRTYMINUTES is an interdisciplinary online collaboration, with two of its members based in London, United Kingdom and the third in Nanaimo, Canada.

The focus of THIRTYMINUTES is to create an ongoing artistic conversation, where each week, a member of the group creates an artwork over a period of thirty minutes in response to the previous submission. THIRTYMINUTES work across a variety of media including film, visual art, composition, poetry and foley, and there is a particular emphasis on modes of creation that challenge the members to step outside of their habitual methods.

THIRTYMINUTES regularly present the output of their ongoing conversation on Instagram and their website. They have also presented two longer audiovisual pieces with Espacio Gallery (London), Sub Tei (Berlin), and Make Art Not War Foundation (California).

In 2021, THIRTYMINUTES received funding from the Canada Council’s Digital Now scheme to support the creation of an audiovisual album that they will develop in collaboration with Olivia Shortt, Marla Hlady and Luke Hathaway.

THIRTYMINUTES.

Formed with filmmaker/writer Maggie Hope in 2020, apart together started as a remote, collaborative project where the Vancouver-born artists could process their experiences of self isolation through artistic creation.

As old friends that became separated by distance, the two artists found a space of reunion and creativity through rapidly shifting circumstances. With ongoing sharing of video footage and short compositions, the pair began to create a series of nostalgic, loving and sombre collections that reflect their experience of home and distance.

apart together’s most recent film, BITS, was featured in the 2020 48 Stunden Neukölln Festival hosted by SUB TEI Gallery in Berlin, Germany. A collection of other pieces has been selected to be featured in the 2020 SSFF Spring Shorts Festival in Worcester, Massachusetts, as well as the July 2020 edition of the First-Time Filmmaker Sessions hosted by the Lift-Off Global Network.

Aliayta regularly collaborates with arts and design practice Kai Lab to create interdisciplinary performative works. Most recently, she co-composed a piece for violin and multichannel sound that was debuted as part of a solo exhibition by Kai Lab. The immersive work was performed to sold out audiences in the gallery space that housed the visual artworks.

Aliayta has worked with Pathway to Paris, an organisation that brings together musicians, artists, activists, academics, mayors, and innovators to help raise consciousness surrounding the urgency of the climate crises and offers solutions to turning the Paris Agreement into action.

In 2020, Aliayta worked with Pathway to Paris alongside Patti Smith, Olafur Eliasson, Joan Baez and Bill McKibben to deliver online events as part of World Environment Day and NYC Climate Week. As part of this work, she was asked by the ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability to perform for the Mayor of Bonn at Beethoven’s 250th celebrations. Following this, Aliayta was invited by Pathway to Paris and Patti Smith to perform in a new ‘People Have the Power’ video as part of a voting initiative during lockdown (left).
